POP is a brotherhood built for young men ages 13-22. We equip them with the mindset, tools, and community to rise above pressure and live with purpose.
Too many young men are navigating life under pressure, from their environments, their circumstances, and the world around them. POP exists to flip that script.
We create intentional space for young men to be challenged, supported, and developed into leaders. Not just for today, for life.
To empower young men to live with purpose, lead with character, and rise above pressure through mentorship, brotherhood, and intentional development.
A generation of young men in Greater Boston who are mentally strong, academically grounded, community-driven, and purpose-led in everything they do.
We hold our young men to a high standard, because we believe they are capable of more than the world often tells them. Purpose Over Pressure is a mindset, not just a motto.
Our mission is to empower young men ages 13–22 in Greater Boston to live with purpose, lead with character, and rise above pressure. We build them through six commitments — leadership, mental health, emotional intelligence, confidence, education, and brotherhood — so they meet the world ready, not reactive.
It is our purpose to walk with young men through the milestones, traumas, and choices that shape their trajectory. We teach them to name what they feel, manage what they face, and recognize what they're capable of. Through mentorship, real conversations, and exposure to a bigger world, we help them write a story bigger than the one they were handed.
When young men have a mentor who looks like them, language for what they feel, and a brotherhood that holds them accountable, the trajectory shifts. Our brothers stay in school, set goals worth chasing, and become the kind of men their families and communities need. A young man who understands himself cannot be easily broken.
Developing young men who lead themselves first, with discipline, accountability, and vision for their future.
Breaking stigma and building emotional intelligence. We normalize conversations about mental wellness for young Black men.
Teaching young men to recognize what they feel, name it, and respond with intention instead of reaction. The skill behind every healthy relationship and every leader who can hold the room.
Helping young men discover who they are, stand in their identity, and walk into every room knowing their worth.
Academic support, career exposure, and access to higher education pathways, including HBCUs and trade programs.
A real community of young men who hold each other accountable, show up for each other, and grow together.
One-to-one mentorship pairing young men with trusted male mentors who provide guidance, accountability, and consistent support throughout the program year. Cohort runs September through June.
Annual trips to HBCUs, cultural landmarks, and professional environments. We expose young men to a world bigger than their block and show them what's possible when they walk with purpose.
Monthly group sessions focused on real conversations, mental health, relationships, finances, leadership, and community. A safe space where young men can be honest and be heard.
Tutoring partnerships and college/career readiness workshops. We help young men stay on track academically and plan for life after high school with confidence and clarity.
Community service, speaking engagements, and recognition events that put young men in the room with leaders across industries. We celebrate growth as loudly as we challenge it.
Job shadows, workshops, and connections with professionals in business, trades, healthcare, and tech. Every young man deserves to see himself in a future that excites him.
If you're a young man ages 13-22 in the Greater Boston area ready to be challenged and supported, this is your community.
Apply to Join POPGrowing up in the inner city, Marc Romain never had a positive male figure to guide him. Without that anchor, he made decisions that cost him, including squandering a rare opportunity at BC High, where as a freshman he was a standout football player already drawing attention from college programs. The potential was real. But without a mentor who understood his world, who had lived his experience and could speak to his challenges, he lacked the emotional intelligence to recognize what was in front of him.
That experience never left him.
Marc went on to build a distinguished professional career, most recently serving as Senior Director of OCC at the MBTA. For the past four years he has worked alongside Modern Mentor Inc., helping develop their girls program and building community connections across Greater Boston, a testament to his lifelong passion for youth development and his role as a champion advocate for the next generation.
Marc founded Purpose Over Pressure because he refuses to let the next generation of young men repeat his story. POP exists to put in their corner exactly what he never had, a mentor who shares their background, understands their challenges, and can help them see and seize the opportunities ahead. Not a program. A person. Someone who gets it.
Be the example a young man needs. We're looking for men who are willing to show up consistently and invest in the next generation.
